The Beehive
In the 1950s, a hairstyle known as the bouffant sent women all over the United States running to drug stores for cans of hairspray. The bouffant is tall and wide, with ends that flip over or under. With the creation of the beehive, however, women would lose the width and focus solely on how high they could pile their hair.
Women could even sleep in their beehive with a scarf on but were warned to keep their husband’s hands out of it.
