#10: Operation Cornflakes and the Fake German Mail
There was no breakfast cereal involved, despite the name. Operation Cornflakes was an Office of Strategic Services deception campaign designed to place Allied propaganda directly into German homes through Germany’s own postal system. The method required unusually theatrical timing. Allied aircraft would attack a mail train; another aircraft would then drop bags filled with forged German mail near the wreckage, ideally close enough that postal workers recovering genuine sacks would unknowingly gather the counterfeit ones as well.
