Alec Guinness Hated Star Wars
In life, it is a bitter truth that things don’t always go our way and we have to make do of the cards that we are dealt with. Before playing the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Sir Alec Guinness was accustomed to performing Shakespeare. Want to know the tea? He actually hated the film, complaining that “new rubbish dialogue reaches me every other day on wages of pink paper.”
In his autobiography, A Positively Final Appearance, he shared an anecdote. He recalls meeting a young fan who was asking for his autograph. The young fan excitedly tells him that he has watched Star Wars a hundred times now. Guinness agreed to give his autograph if the young fan promises to never watch it again, which made the young fan burst into tears.
