Luke Starkiller
It was mentioned earlier in this article that Luke Skywalker’s original name was planned to be Luke Starkiller. Although it does sound catchy, the idea never pushed through. What would have happened if it did push through? Before it was even mentioned on the screen, George Lucas already made the necessary changes to turn Luke’s name into Skywalker. But why?
The name was officially changed in April 1976. Lucas reasoned out that the name Starkiller seemed too violent for the younger audiences. Also, Lucas was worried that audiences might have unpleasant connotations with the original surname, which could actually affect the sales and performance of the film at the box office. Although, after Disney bought the rights to the Star Wars franchise, the character resurfaced again and made canon in The Force Unleashed.
