#3: Great Knaresborough Bed Race
We have seen people sleeping in race cars, and now it is time to know about beds racing to win it. You read that right: The Great Knaresborough Bed Race is what it essentially says in the title. Since the year 1966, four teams tackled the 2.5-mile course through the town; the annual race is a staple for the town visitors. In recent years, as many as 90 teams competed for the prize.

The objective of the race is to get to the finish line while pushing a decorated bed. Each year, there is a theme, and people spend months beforehand making their beds stand out. The beds have to be homemade and must follow the theme. The team has to cross many other obstacles, including a body of water, all amidst a cheering crowd and marching bands. The event and the accompanying parade generate $124,000 or more from various organizations.
