Whether you call them sodas or pops or call every soda, regardless of brand, a Coke, we all agree that a glass of soda can help wash down a good meal. Which soda to choose, though? America is rife with soda brands. In the past century, there have been many flavors, unique brands, and interesting spins on soda, with some of them lost to time. So, I’m going to look at 21 discontinued sodas. I’ll explain their history and give you my two cents on whether or not they should be brought back.
#1: Clear as Crystal
In the early ’90s, there was an obsession with clear things. For example, phones, game consoles, and other tech came in see-through colors. Pepsi decided to capitalize on the clear craze by bringing us Crystal Pepsi. Gone was the caramel color, and here was a soda that resembled Sprite but had a Pepsi taste. It was launched in 1992 and discontinued only two years later.
In 2016, Pepsi briefly brought it back after hearing the cries of Gen Xers and elder Millennials. But it was a limited edition. Personally, I think they should bring it back. It’s more than just a gimmick; the formula gives it a slightly less sweet and less acidic taste, which I enjoyed.
