There is a wonderfully absurd unfairness to Ken’s situation. In Bee Movie (2007), he is not dealing with an ordinary romantic rival, a misunderstanding, or a bad date. His girlfriend has formed an intense emotional bond with a talking bee who keeps appearing in their home and disrupting every normal boundary. The film plays Ken’s frustration for laughs, and Patrick Warburton gives him exactly the right comic tension, but step back from the joke for a second. Most people would not remain calm if a small flying stranger began taking over their relationship.
