#3: Tamagotchi (Released in the 1990s)
Speaking of pets that are not pets, next on our list is the Tamagotchi. If you grew up in the late 90s, the Tamagotchi may have been one of your very first pets. These tiny pocket-sized pals were interactive electronic gaming devices that allowed kids to raise and care for various creatures without the mess and financial burden that comes with a live animal.
The Tamagotchi was a great way to teach kids responsibility, but some believe it may have gone a little too far. These handheld companions were designed to die if they were not cared for properly or even from old age. If that weren’t scarring enough, tombstones and ghosts would pop up on the screen, letting your child know they failed.
