#2: Pet Rock (Released in the 1970s)
Today, it’s hard to believe there was a time when Pet Rock was actually a real toy. However, in the mid-70s, not only was this a popular form of entertainment, but it was also a companion for many. Kids, teens, and adults alike would carry their little friend around, teaching it “tricks” and ogling at its googly eyes.

People actually paid money for an ordinary rock, simply to stick the box under the tree at Christmas to surprise their kids with their very own… pet? It sounds more than a little ridiculous when we put it like that. The Pet Rock is still in circulation today, but mainly for gag gifts or a bit of retro fun.
