The Disney Point
Remember how growing up our mothers would shush us and remind us (in public, it seemed to me) that it’s rude to point my finger? Doesn’t matter if I was pointing at something or someone. Mom would give me her meanest stare, cluck at me and tell me not to point. Seems like Walt Disney himself was 101% on board with this practice and insisted that all cast members across all parks follow suit. Hence the Disney Point was born.
So how do cast members give directions when guests need help? Instead of using one finger, the Disney point uses two. This helps cast members remain polite across cultures. With millions of visitors, some of whom culturally consider the pointing of a finger as rude, this is a sure-fire way to make a point without offending anybody.
