Before the internet allowed us to fact-check information at the click of a button, we were all too willing to accept rumors as truth. Many of these myths circulated among friends and family and became staples of our childhood conversations. The idea that swallowed gum stays in your stomach for seven years was a favorite tale among kids. It generated fear that a casual chew would lead to a long-term digestive nightmare. However, doctors confirm that gum passes through the digestive system just like other foods. The body cannot digest it, but it eliminates it within a few days.
