Commonly, when we talk about the history of the United States, we refer to wars, key personalities, and famous monuments. Pivotal, yet one of the most commonly overlooked aspects, rivers have contributed significantly to the formation of the country. These meandering water bodies crisscross through lands wherein historical events are shaped. Here are some rivers that have deeply influenced the USA, from the powerful Mississippi to the picturesque Yukon.

#1: Mississippi River

There is no doubt that the Mississippi River is one of the most famous rivers in the United States. It flows for over 2,300 miles and, since the early days of this nation, has served as a most vital channel for trade and travel. It was a strategic artery during the Civil War on which both the North and the South placed much reliance.
