Los Altos | San Jose, CA
Back in the early 1900s, Assistant GM of Southern Pacific’s interurban lines purchased a 160-acre plot of land in San Jose, subsequently calling it Los Altos. Little did he know just how successful and how much of a power-magnet the residential community would become. Today, you’d require a steady income of around $170,000 to fit in with your super-rich neighbors.
Los Altos started as a quaint community, but as time went on, the area began expanding to the point where purchasing a home there was nearly 200% higher than anywhere else in California. Forbes labeled Los Altos one of the top places rich people should retire.
