Retail workers are painfully underestimated. It might not take a lot of academic skills to work in retail, but it takes a lot of people skills – which is something many of us lack. If you’ve ever worked in retail, you know that it takes a lot of patience. Working in retail means meeting all kinds of people, all on the same day, and having to treat them all with respect (even when they don’t grant you the same treatment). Whoever said the customer is always right has clearly never worked in retail. These memes and tweets shared on the Instagram account “Retail Problems” depict what it’s like working in retail, and we aren’t sure whether we should be laughing or crying. If you have any retail stories or insights of your own, feel free to share them in the comments!
#1: See You Never
Customers all around the world feel like they’re the center of the universe. The minute you enter an establishment as a customer, you get a sense of entitledness, as if you deserve special treatment from the staff. So, when customers say they’ll never return to this establishment ever again, they feel like they’ve won.
However, chances are, the employees don’t want these customers to return just as much as the customers don’t want to return to this place. So, it’s a win for everyone. Saying, “I won’t be coming to this place ever again,” is in no way a threat to the employees; the people who say this sort of thing are often rude, entitled customers.
