#45: Rephrase the Question
Working in shifts has many advantages, but it also has its downsides. Sometimes, you don’t get as many shifts as you’d like, or you get too many shifts. One way to overcome this challenge is taking shifts from other employees – that’s a win-win for everyone.

But asking a coworker if they “want” to cover your shift is the wrong way to go about it. It’s a matter of how you’re phrasing the question – no one wants to cover your shift, but they might be willing to do so if they need the money. They don’t ever want to cover their own shifts; if it was up to them, they wouldn’t even be working there.
