Not a couple
Unrequited love is a tough place to be. Even worse is not quite knowing whether this is the case or whether you actually have a chance with the object of your affections. How long do you wait to find out? Do you ask outright, or do you drop little hints to give them room to profess their feelings?
This guy decided that pretending to make a joke would give his “friend” the opportunity to jump into his arms. Unfortunately, that wasn’t what happened, although at least she let him down gently. I think these two are destined to just stay friends.
