We all know some stories about bizarre creatures have inspired myths of horror. Some of these sound a little crazy, but many are based on real animals that were misunderstood because of their strange appearance and behavior. As we may understand in this article, some of these stories inspired fears across cultures.

#1: The Blood-Sucking Chupacabra (The Scabby Mange Coyote)

The legend of the Chupacabra kicked off in 1995, when Puerto Rico faced a series of animal deaths, primarily livestock drained of their blood. Eyewitnesses described a bizarre creature with spikes along its back, and the myth spread through Latino communities in the United States. However, curious scientists eventually captured a few suspects in Texas, only to find out they were coyotes suffering from severe sarcoptic mange.
