#1: Manatee – The Mermaid
For centuries, sailors trapped on grueling voyages suffered from deep loneliness and intense nostalgia for home. In their exhaustion, glimpses of gray figures swimming in the distance turned into beautiful ocean maidens. Manatees and dugongs, known as sirenians, can hold themselves upright in the water, nurse their young similarly to humans, and pivot their heads.
