Well, we all idolized Ferris Bueller back in the day because he was actualizing all of our fantasies we only dreamed of: Skipping school and going out on the town to do whatever he wanted. We also idolized him because other characters hated him. There’s no more effective device to get an audience behind the protagonist than making other characters hate them.
