#5: 3D Printers
Most of us hadn’t heard of 3D printing until a few years ago. It’s pretty amazing to think that someone can print something out of thin air using this amazing piece of technology. But what if we told you that 3D printers are over 40 years old? That’s right— the earliest 3D printers were invented in the 1980s!
Different versions of 3D printing methods were patented in the early 1980s in the U.S. and France. The technology has been in use in one form or another by large corporations like Raytheon ever since. It wasn’t until the late 2000s that patents began expiring, and small businesses were able to create more affordable and consumer-friendly versions of 3D printing. That’s why this technology took a while to hit the consumer market.
