Nothing’s worse than going to the store for your favorite snack only to learn it’s been discontinued. Okay, there are a lot of things that are worse, but it’s still a pretty disappointing feeling, which is why it feels so good when your favorite snack makes a grand return to store shelves. As LL Cool J once said, “Don’t call it a comeback/I been here for years.” We’re here to look at 25 snacks that were discontinued but then made a return. Sometimes, it’s a limited-time thing (boo,) and other times, it’s permanent (yay!).
#1: Twinkies
In 2012, some folks were convinced the world was going to end, and one sign of the apocalypse was Hostess filing for bankruptcy and suspending all Twinkie production in the US on November 21st, fittingly a month before the supposed Mayan apocalypse.
It was madness! Scalpers on eBay were even trying to get rich from this, selling boxes of Twinkies for as much as $10,000. Luckily, the Twinkie shortage didn’t last long (unlike their shelf life), as in March of 2013, Apollo Global Management and Metropolis & Co. purchased Hostess, and the beloved snack made its great return.
