#1: Tintin in the Congo (1930)

First published in 1930, Tintin in the Congo by Hergé follows the young reporter in colonial Africa. The story has long been criticized for racist portrayals and animal cruelty. Hergé later said he reflected common European views of the time, and later editions removed some references to Belgian colonial rule.
