Overqualified, underpaid
Higher education is one huge pyramid scheme. If you don’t land a job with a bachelor’s degree, earn a master’s degree to make yourself stand out from the crowd. If that doesn’t work, get a Ph.D. so that you can teach students how to become unemployed. But once in a blue moon, you’ll find job openings that were made for you.
The thing is that the salaries might not be what you were expecting. This out-of-touch employer was looking for someone with a master’s degree in the relevant field and was willing to pay the “generous” sum of just over $15 per hour. So, yeah, the $50,000 debt you put yourself into to get your MBA will take over 3,000 hours to pay back… before interest.
