Weekends are a bit different in this side of the world
Before 2006 the weekends were Thursday and Fridays. In 2006 a compromise was made to save the holiness of the Friday for Muslims and honor western weekends of Saturdays – Sundays. With time Dubai has taken more of a tourist approach, very well known now for its nightlife mostly taking place at hotels bars and clubs, due the strict alcohol law.
This adjustment accommodates not only the highly and increasing number of expats residents of Dubai, but also the influx of tourists. Some choose the city as a destination for vacations, others arrive following the various sports tournaments hosted in the city and others turn up for events like the Dubai Shopping Festival or Dubai Summer Surprises.
