Alaska Permanent Fund
If you’ve lived in Alaska for over 12 months, you’re entitled to receive a check from the government. They’re not paying you because you’re living in Alaska and contributing to the local economy. Well, that’s not the only reason. The Alaska Permanent Fund is given to all permanent residents in the state as a sort of thank you for allowing oil companies to do their thing.
This fund is pretty controversial, and it’s not hard to see why. By giving free rein to companies to extract natural resources from the sea and possibly heat up the planet in the process seems like a bribe. However, that’s just the way things are in Alaska.
