#13: Hallstatt (Austria)
This Austrian village is the picture on a thousand puzzle boxes, and for good reason. It’s a perfect storybook scene: charming 16th-century houses cling to the side of a mountain, their reflections shimmering in the clear lake below. People have lived in this spot since at least 4500 BC, originally drawn by the area’s salt deposits. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, it’s a place that seems almost too perfect to be real. It’s no wonder tourists flock here to see a fairy tale come to life.
