Do Planes Have Keys?
Smaller airplanes like the Cessna have ignition keys that are needed to start the engine much like cars. When it comes to passenger jets though, you don’t need keys to start them up. What about safety, though? They’re usually parked at a safe spot or stored in the hangar where they’re under surveillance so you don’t really need to lock them up.
If you’re wondering how jets are started, it’s as simple as sitting on the pilot’s seat and pushing a few buttons. Ha, if only! Starting up an airplane is a complicated three-stage process that starts with turning on the APU, then each engine separately with the necessary precautions.
