Why do Most Flights in Hot Countries Take off at Night?
If you are a frequent flyer to countries in the Middle East and parts of Asia like India and Pakistan, you would have noticed that a lot of flights – particularly international ones take off in the middle of the night. Believe it or not, there’s a reason for this and it’s related to meteorology.
As temperature increases, density decreases, which in turn decreases the performance of an aircraft. Think less lift, less thrust, and more takeoff and landing distances. As the air is cooler and therefore denser at night, the aircraft will give you better performance which is particularly important to international flights.
