What Happens When There’s a Medical Emergency?
You may have heard or at least seen movies where the cabin crew make an announcement asking if there’s a doctor onboard. This is one scenario where movies are pretty close to reality. Medical emergencies do happen quite often and what pilots choose to do depends on how serious the situation is.
Considering there are on average around 300 passengers on board, it’s quite likely that there will be a doctor or at least someone with a medical background who’s willing to help. Also, the cabin crew receives some medical training as part of their job so minor cases can be handled onboard. If it’s something serious, however, pilots usually choose to make an emergency landing so the passenger can get the help they need.
