Can Pilots Play Music in the Cockpit?
What do pilots do for all those hours in the cockpit? Surely they can play music when the autopilot is on and they’re bored? No, unfortunately playing music in the cockpit of a commercial flight is prohibited. The reason is simple, it’s to avoid distraction as they need to pay attention to the ATC, other airplanes, and most importantly, each other.
They do get some leeway if their flight is delayed and they’re waiting on the ground without passengers though. Then it’s okay to turn on some music in the cockpit. When surgeons can play the music of their choice while operating, why can’t pilots do the same, we wonder?
