Why Don’t Planes Have Parachutes?
Wouldn’t it be great if planes had parachutes that could be deployed in case the aircraft was going down? In theory, yes but in practice, parachutes wouldn’t be very useful. Movies make it look like all you have to do tug on it and voila you’re floating down to safety but the truth is far from it.
People actually have to undergo training to know how to use them correctly so someone without experience can’t just do it on a whim. Also, it’s impossible to jump out of a fast-moving plane or one that’s higher than 16,000 feet. So it doesn’t make sense to add weight by providing parachutes to everyone.
