Do Pilots Sleep in the Cockpit?
Yes, they do but before you freak out, this is allowed and done in a controlled manner. As you know, pilots have odd timings and a difficult schedule to keep up. It’s not uncommon for them to get fatigued and tired at times. This is why they’re allowed to take power naps called “controlled rest in position” during their flights.
They can’t sleep for more than 40 minutes and must wake up at least half an hour before they start descending for landing. Once they’re awake, they get 15 minutes to refresh and resume their flying duties. Also, only one can rest at any given time so there’s nothing to worry about.
