#37: A Slim Door
The lives of monks are not easy lives; they have many restrictions, mostly against things that provide us with pleasure. Take this monastery in Portugal, for example. This photo shows the door to the dining area of the Alcobaça Monastery in Portugal, which is intentionally narrow to keep the weight of the monks in check.

Monks who couldn’t pass through the door were essentially banned from the dining room and forced to fast until they could fit in. This odd form of punishment is not uncommon in different parts of the world and different cultural settings.
