#35: Winston Churchill, 1935

This is Winston Churchill, later to become the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, being carried from a nursing home in New York City in 1935 after being hit by a car. The humorous part of the story is that he forgot that traffic moves in the US and UK in opposite directions.

I imagine it’s pretty common for people to suddenly find themselves walking or driving on the opposite side, but I hope that not too many people end up in the hospital afterward. Great Britain might have almost lost a future Prime Minister that way—the Prime Minister who led them through WWII.
