We humans like to think that we’re at the center of the universe, to the extent that we presume to communicate with other species we invented. We all talk to our dogs in English, Spanish, Tamil, or Swahili – even though they only know how to bark in response.

Even so, I’ve never seen anyone try to communicate verbally with a butterfly – especially not with a giant road sign at the edge of a highway. I’m not sure if the butterflies got the message, but it probably didn’t hurt. And anyway, it’s nice to see a bright blue butterfly while driving.
