#8: How Can It Hurt?
“What you don’t know can’t hurt you” is a common refrain that most of us grew up hearing. Sure, it’s true in some situations. Ignorance is bliss, to a certain extent. However, things we don’t know can definitely still hurt us. That’s just the way of the world. If someone doesn’t know they have cancer, for example, they can definitely still get hurt.

If you don’t know a storm is coming, you can still get injured by the extreme weather. If you don’t know a deadly scorpion is hiding in the bushes, you can still get stung. Ignorance is bliss in some situations but not in all situations. This classic piece of advice is only true in certain contexts.
