#3: A Wild Take
Fads come and go with each passing year. Most of the time, it’s pretty easy to tell when something is going to be a short-lived fad. However, some people don’t have well-developed fad radars. This person once received advice that was so crazy they knew it had to be ignored at all costs.
The year was 1984. Computers were finally becoming mainstream, more affordable, and more widespread. A friend’s mom said that they shouldn’t major in computer science because computers were just a fad. Even back in the 1980s, everyone knew this was a wild take. It was easy to see that computers were about to change the world as we knew it. Thankfully, this person didn’t listen to their friend’s mom and went on to study computer science in college.
