#8: The Chipper Cheerleader
You can see why people often recommend the power of positive thinking to deal with difficulties and improve your life. After all, thinking positively won’t magically fix all your problems, but thinking negatively will certainly make most problems worse.
But it’s definitely possible to take this too far—to put such a focus on being happy at all times that it can put a lot of pressure on someone who’s in a position where it’s hard to be happy and where being happy isn’t going to fix anything. Maybe a better philosophy would be, “Think positive where possible, understanding that in some situations, you’ve just got to let yourself feel however you’re going to feel for a while.”
