The Wizard of Oz (1939)
The Wizard of Oz is a fascinating movie because it’s nostalgic and fun but also has a dark side to it. The musical fantasy has more to it than meets the eye. One of the more interesting dark observations made about this 1939 classic takes place when Dorothy and the gang are walking down the yellow brick road, en route to find the wizard.
If you pause the scene and look closely, you can see something almost hanging from one of the trees in the distance. Officials have stated that this figure is merely a bird, but a lot of fans have a developed theory that says otherwise. Rumor has it that it’s actually a munchkin who hung himself! If that’s not a dark twist to an otherwise nostalgic movie, we don’t know what is.
