This meme made me laugh a lot, because I knew that I had genuinely arrived as a grown-up when aunts and grandmas and my mother started assigning me proper food to bring to family parties, rather than chips or condiments or paper plates. They have finally acknowledged the fact that I make way better salads than certain other family members who shall remain unnamed.

So yeah, I can confirm that there is something to this in some families: if they assign you to bring something that you just purchased premade or frozen, that might be a subtle hint that they don’t really trust your culinary skills. But hey, if you don’t like cooking, that sounds like an absolute win in my book.
