#25: Standing close to fireworks
The Fourth of July used to feel close enough to touch. Children sat on curbs, adults lit fuses in driveways, sparklers hissed in small hands, and everyone leaned in to watch the next burst. Standing close to fireworks was part of the thrill, especially when a neighborhood show felt more exciting than anything organized by the town. The danger, of course, is that fireworks do not always behave politely. Burns, eye injuries, hearing risks, misfires, and illegal or poorly handled fireworks changed the conversation over time. Even sparklers, which many people think of as gentle, burn at extremely high temperatures.
