#13: Captain Kangaroo (1955-1984)
If there’s one thing Baby Boomers and Gen X remember about Captain Kangaroo, it’s that it ran forever, from the ‘50s into the ‘80s, and was all about gentle, low-key fun for kids. Captain Kangaroo himself (played by Bob Keeshan) was a super calm, kind personality who would read stories, do skits, and interact with a bunch of oddball characters like Mr. Green Jeans and Dancing Bear. It wasn’t loud or flashy, just simple, sweet, and a little goofy. The kind of show where you didn’t even realize you were learning stuff because you were too busy waiting for the next silly prop to fall out of the treasure house.
