Board games always brought family and friends together, only to tear them apart when someone landed on a Boardwalk hotel in Monopoly. While they’re not going anywhere, it seems like most kids nowadays would rather play a video game or look at their tablet than play board games. And that’s a shame. There’s something magical about a group of people sitting down and playing something with real pieces. Today, we’re looking at 22 recognizable but forgotten board games.
#1: The Game of Life
The Game of Life is older than you may think. Originally released in 1860 as The Checkered Game of Life, it was Milton Bradley’s first game(!). The original version looked like a checkerboard with different life events on its squares, and you had to land on the “Good” events to earn points.
In 1960, the game was reinvented for its 100th anniversary, and this is the version we all know. That spinning wheel, those funny life event cars, and driving your car to retirement are just some things I remember from this game. And just like life itself, the game is over before you know it! It’s still around, with many versions and additions over the years.
