The world’s smallest computer
At the other end of the size spectrum, you’re now looking at the world’s smallest computer. It’s sitting for the purposes of scale, next to a grain of rice, and you’re seeing it through a microscope. Developed by engineers at the University of Michigan in 2018, the computer measures 0.3mm x 0.3 mm.
When you consider the fact that, just a few decades ago, basic computers used to take up whole rooms in order to do simple calculations, that humans have been able to develop something so complex and tiny within 70 years, it’s pretty amazing. The benefits of this sort of technology are far-reaching, particularly for medical treatments.
