Sword monument
Now, this is like something out of Game of Thrones. This grand, and rather terrifying, monument can be found in Norway, in Hafrsfjord, Rogaland. It’s rather unimaginatively called Swords in Rock, or Sverd i fjell in Norweigan. Designed by the sculptor Fritz Roed in 1983, it commemorates the battle of Hfrsfjord in 872.
This battle marked the moment when Norway became united in one kingdom, an important historical event. King Olav of Norway unveiled it, and it is a popular tourist destination. Standing underneath the swords and looking up must really bring home their imposing nature and the seriousness of battle.
