Pink lake
For the individual who likes everything color-coordinated, we give you: the bubblegum pink Lake Hillier on Middle Island in Australia. For decades it was a mystery as to why the lake had its unique color, but scientists have recently discovered that it is caused by algae, halobacteria, and microbes. The water that makes up the lake is also as salty as the Dead Sea, meaning you could float in it.
If you’re already packing your costume to go for a quick dip, then I’m sorry to disappoint you but Lake Hillier is on a private island and you can only see it by taking a plane or helicopter ride overhead. You could recreate a similar experience if you had some pink food dye and a bathtub, but the tropical surroundings might be lacking.
