Space for the tourists
As fabulous as the creation of all that clean renewable electricity from water was, there were unforeseen problems. As the hydroelectric power stations increased in efficiency, they slowed down the Falls themselves, meaning they looked less impressive to the visiting tourists.
A solution had to be found, as the local tourism industry was suffering and worried about the impact of the electricity creation. So a deal was made: the power plants would do the majority of their work through the slow tourist season, while during peak times, they would only take a small amount of energy.
