Such a huge project we would hope would only have to be undertaken once in a lifetime, especially with the costs and man-hours involved. However, in 2016, the Niagara Frontier State Park Commission announced plans to shut off the American Falls once more, to repair the bridges that cross from the mainland to Goat Island.
Fast forward two years and the proposed project was still being planned, but a lack of funds was causing huge holdups. In 2019, the Commission put the plans indefinitely on hold, so we’re not sure when we’ll get to see the riverbed and all its interesting quirks again.
