The barrel plunge
It’s not only those who feel that they have nothing left that throw themselves off of the Falls, however. Daredevils have been drawn to the Falls for centuries as a way of taking on nature and proving themselves victorious. Here is one of those unlikely adrenaline junkies!
This is Annie Edson Taylor, a teacher from New York who in 1901 became the first person to survive a trip over Niagara Falls in a barrel. She was 63, and was hoping that she’d be financially set for life after such an escapade. While she survived the trip in her specially-made barrel, she never got the money she hoped.
