Over the years, players, coaches, and officials have found themselves at the center of controversies that spilled far beyond the field. Careers changed. Rules were rewritten. Fans argued for years. In this gallery, we revisit Super Bowl era scandals that unfolded like unscripted drama. Keep scrolling and tell us in the comments which one you remember watching unfold in real time.
#1: The Snowplow Game (1982)
Blizzard conditions left Schaefer Stadium a slippery mess, and the scorewas tied 0-0 late in the fourth quarter. The Patriots’ coach used a stadium worker and a John Deere snowplow to clear a spot for kicker John Smith, who nailed the 33-yard field goal to win the game. Miami’s coach fumed, but the protest failed. The incident sparked an NFL rule banning outside equipment on the field and left a John Deere immortalized at the Patriots Hall of Fame.
